Former RuPaul’s Drag Race contestant Jiggly Caliente (real name Bianca Castro) is speaking out about a life-threatening health crisis that left her hospitalized. The beloved drag performer, known for her vibrant personality and memorable Drag Race Season 4 run, shared her ordeal in a candid Instagram post.
A Sudden Medical Emergency
Caliente revealed that she was rushed to the hospital after experiencing severe complications from diabetes and high blood pressure. The 41-year-old artist admitted she had been neglecting her health, leading to a dangerous situation.
“I was this close to death,” she wrote. “I’m lucky to be alive.”
The drag queen, who also appeared on RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 6, explained that she had been ignoring symptoms for months before her condition became critical.
A Wake-Up Call for Self-Care
Caliente’s health scare served as a stark reminder of the importance of regular check-ups and self-care, especially for performers under constant pressure.
“I thought I was invincible,” she admitted. “But our bodies have limits.”
Fans and fellow drag stars flooded social media with messages of support, including fellow Drag Race alum Monét X Change and Trinity The Tuck, who urged her to prioritize her well-being.
Returning Stronger Than Ever
Despite the frightening experience, Caliente remains optimistic. She assured fans she’s recovering and plans to return to the stage soon—but with a renewed focus on her health.
“I’m not done yet,” she declared. “This is just another chapter in my story.”
Her openness about her struggles has sparked conversations about mental and physical health in the drag community, where performers often push themselves to extremes for their art.
