While McDonald’s may be better known for Big Macs and fries, it’s their coffee that’s quietly winning hearts—and taste buds—across America.

Donna Locklin from Salado, Texas, didn’t expect to become a loyal McCafé fan. But 20 years ago, she gave the coffee a try after qualifying for the senior discount—a 25-cent cup—and never looked back.

“It’s not too strong, but has a rich brown color,” Locklin told Fox News Digital. “It’s never bitter and always fresh. And if it’s ever not fresh, they’ll make you a fresh pot right then and there.”

She’s not alone. Across social media, McDonald’s coffee lovers are buzzing.

“Why is McDonald’s coffee almost always better tasting than just about anything I buy and brew myself?” one Reddit user asked.

Another replied, “Don’t be ashamed. I like it, too.” A third chimed in: “Can’t be beat for the price.”

So what’s behind this humble cup of joe that’s sparking such praise?

McDonald’s chef Mike Lingo offered some insight. “Coffee has been on McDonald’s menu since 1948, when we only had nine items total,” he said in an interview. “Over the years, we’ve worked to perfect the blend.”

Lingo emphasized that every detail counts—from the beans and roasting process to the brewing equipment. McDonald’s uses 100% Arabica beans, sourced either through Rainforest Alliance-certified farms or via their own McCafé Sustainability Improvement Platform (SIP).

The result? A medium-dark roast crafted exclusively for McDonald’s, with “full-body fruity, floral, and chocolate notes,” according to Lingo.

And while the fast-food chain is famous for its burgers, McDonald’s doesn’t take mornings lightly.

“When we open our doors each morning, we’re a breakfast restaurant,” said Lingo. “Nothing compares to starting your day with a delicious cup of coffee—and we’ve spent decades perfecting it.”

So the next time you’re in the drive-thru, don’t sleep on the McCafé. It might just be the most underrated item on the menu.
