President Donald Trump has announced a new initiative, “Project Homecoming,” aimed at encouraging undocumented migrants to voluntarily leave the United States. The plan offers a $1,000 stipend and travel assistance to those who choose to self-deport, as part of a broader strategy to reduce the number of undocumented immigrants in the country
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has introduced a rebranded mobile application, CBP Home, allowing migrants to report their intent to depart. This app replaces the previous CBP One app and is part of a $200 million campaign titled “Stay Out and Leave Now,” which includes advertisements and public service announcements encouraging voluntary departure.
For those who do not opt to leave voluntarily, the administration warns of increased enforcement measures. A draft of Trump’s proclamation indicates plans to mobilize an additional 20,000 officers to carry out a large-scale deportation surge targeting individuals residing in the country illegally.
Critics argue that the initiative may pressure migrants into leaving without fully understanding their legal rights or options. Advocacy groups have urged individuals to seek legal counsel before making decisions related to self-deportation.
